Raipur TMT Fe-500D Prices Rise ₹350/MT in June: Monsoon Demand Surge Analysis

TMT bar prices in the Raipur cluster climbed by ₹350 per metric tonne between June 1 and June 20, 2026 — driven by pre-monsoon stocking activity by civil contractors across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. The average ex-mill Fe-500D rate touched ₹53,800/MT as of June 19, up from ₹53,450 at the start of the month. Analysts at Sariya Bazar attribute the spike to simultaneous demand from three infrastructure corridors: the Raipur-Jagdalpur highway widening project, the Bilaspur urban metro preliminary works, and 14 government housing schemes under PMAY Urban. Dealers report order books filled 3–4 weeks out, with some mills issuing waiting lists for Fe-550D high-ductility bars.

BIS Revises IS:1786 Testing Norms — What B2B Buyers Must Know Before Next Purchase

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has released a draft amendment to IS:1786 (the benchmark standard for High Strength Deformed (HSD) steel bars) that significantly tightens bend-rebend test requirements and introduces mandatory UTS/YS ratio verification for Fe-500D and Fe-550D grades. The revision, open for public comment until July 31, 2026, requires test certificates to now include the TS/YS ratio, the Total Elongation at Maximum Force (Agt), and Charpy impact test results for seismic grade designations. Bulk buyers in earthquake-prone zones (Zone III, IV, V) should ensure their suppliers' current Mill Test Certificates (MTCs) comply with these new parameters before finalising orders.

Coal Scarcity Hits Induction Furnace Clusters: Sponge Iron Shortage May Spike TMT Rates by ₹800/MT

A supply crunch in non-coking coal at Coal India's central India collieries is creating a cascading effect on DRI (sponge iron) production — the primary feedstock for induction furnace (IF) steel mills that supply 70% of TMT rebars to central India markets. IF mill utilisation in the Raipur cluster dropped from 82% to 67% in the first week of June as sponge iron prices climbed 12% to ₹34,200/MT. Industry sources at Sariya Bazar's dealer network indicate that unless the Railways increases coal rake allocation by late June, TMT ex-mill prices could breach ₹54,500/MT by end of Q1 FY2027. Procurement teams managing active construction contracts should consider forward-covering 2–3 months of TMT requirements at current rates.
